Consultation

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation determining your diagnosis and explaining treatment options. Occasionally, some limited procedures may be able to offered the same day as the consultation. A complex medical history or treatment plan will usually require a detailed evaluation and further investigations and appointments to provide treatment on another occasion.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation or by emailing it ahead of time to [email protected]

  • Your referral letter and any radiographs, CT’s and/ or MRI’s if applicable.
  • You will be asked to complete a full medical history form prior to seeing Dr. Bowler. This may be done online via this website.
  • If you have private medical or dental insurance, or are a Worker’s Compensation Claim etc please bring the necessary information.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.). If you are on any form of medication we need to know this as well, especially heart medications, aspirin and anticoagulant therapy.

Many vitamins, herbal products and complementary medications such as vitamin C tablets, multivitamins, garlic preparations, echinacea preparations, anti-oxidant tablets, fish oil, krill oil etc can predispose to bleeding and should be avoided for at least 14 days before your operation.

X-Rays (Radiographs)

If your dental or medical practitioner has taken or arranged x-rays, you may request they forward them to our office or please pick them up and bring them to the office.

If these x-rays/scans are to be used for your treatment they must be high quality images showing your name and the date on which they were taken for them to be clinically and legally acceptable. Data emailed or brought in on discs cannot always be opened depending on the software used. If additional films are necessary, some of these can be taken at our facility whilst high quality CT’s and MRI’s can easily be arranged at nearby imaging practices.

In order to provide you with highly specialised surgical treatment it is essential for you to have high quality, accurate and appropriate radiographic data. In view of this, whilst being mindful of radiation dosages, it can be necessary to repeat some investigations prior to treatment. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
